Giants might be shopping for a new 5th starter soon

Coming into this season the giants were under a lot of question as to who would be the 5th starter. After failing to resign Brad Penny who did a wonderful job in that role in the second half last season. The giants went with Todd Wellemeyer over the young gun Madison B (who is struggling in AAA Fresno with an 0-1 record and an 8.31 ERA).

In two starts Wellemeyer is 0-2 with an ERA over 9.5. This is not acceptable and the Giants need to make a move here soon or the 5th starter will be a loss every night he goes out there.

  1. I think it may be a little early to be shopping for a new guy I would rather see them bring someone up from within. However if things don't get corrected by the All Star Break it could be time.

Pucetas had a good spring and has been decent so far in Fresno. Joe Martinez I think can hold down the spot if necassary.

The big thing would be to see if Bumgarner can put things together and get back to his previous dominance. I wouldn't mind see him come up around June and be the fifth starter if he can get back to where he was before.

  2. That Todd Wellemyer is a bum the faster the Giants drop that guy the better. He is a warm body with a noodle arm I think that the team should have spent the money to keep Penny, they can't be cheap if they expect to win.
