Up next in the projections lineup is the man who gives night sweats, second baseman .
Most projections that you will see give you one line of stats, now I know my limitations so I will gave you that line of stats but also a best case and a worst case so you can get an idea of my general range for that player.
Without further ado the projection:
2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2011 Projections | .287 | .331 | .390 | 63 | 27 | 2 | 8 | 51 | 3 |
Best Case | .316 | .364 | .428 | 82 | 35 | 3 | 10 | 67 | 4 |
Worst Case | .258 | .298 | .351 | 44 | 19 | 1 | 5 | 36 | 2 |
To be perfectly honest I didn't care when the deal was done I thought that he was a hacker (he is but sure can make contact) and that he was overrated based on one BABIP fueled all-star season, but he has grown on me. In fact I think that he is a pretty solid player now and after years of fielding below average hitters having a guy who is average is breath of fresh air.
That is not to say that I wouldn't give him up for a Chase Utely but realistically that is not happening anytime soon.
Sanchez is what he is and that is a league average player, he will give you a bunch of singles a few doubles, the occasional homer all while playing above average defense. He is the interventionist manager's wet dream with his "bat control" who will call hit and runs all day with him behind the lead off man. Plus he is always a risk to go on a BABIP bender and light the world on fire while peppering liners over the heads of infielders, and hitting bloops that fall in front of outfielders.
The projection that I have for this year see him regress a little from last year but not a huge amount, in fact this projection is among the closets to a repeat of numbers from the previous year. The best case is where more hits then expected fall and the worst case is the opposite with bad luck striking him.
Even with the worst case Sanchez is an adequate second baseman with the defense that he plays so I am not too worried as his luck will determine where he hits in the order.
